01WHAT A DISC PROBLEM CAN FEEL LIKE

What a pinched nerve or disc bulge can feel like.

Pain that radiates down the leg
Numbness and tingling
A deep ache, almost like a charley horse
Trouble standing at the grocery store
Not sleeping through the night
Pain that is still there after surgery or a fusion

If that sounds familiar, the exam will tell us whether decompression is a fit.

02THE USUAL PATH

Medication. Injections. Ablation. Then surgery.

Many patients arrive having been told there is nothing more to do. Take this medication. Try this injection. Do this ablation. Wait until it gets bad enough, and then operate.

03HOW DECOMPRESSION WORKS

What is actually happening in the disc.

  1. 1

    Compression.

When the spine compresses, the disc has a tendency to bulge out.

  2. 2

    Pressure.

The bulge presses on the nerve. The more pressure on the nerve, the more pain, inflammation and radiating pain.

  3. 3

    Decompression.

Negative pressure inside the disc draws it back, away from the nerve root. Disc height increases and the bulge reduces.

Surgery can trim part of the disc or part of the bone. It does not reposition the disc away from the nerve root.

04GENTLE BY DESIGN

So gentle, most patients sleep through it.

The machine uses a special waveform called oscillation. It helps get past muscle guarding, so the body relaxes and takes in the treatment. No needles. No incision.

SHE WAS THE PATIENT FIRST

“I've sat on the other side of the table.”

Dr. Teresa Larson has practiced in Lincoln for 28 years. A herniated disc in her own neck took her out of practice for more than six months. She could not bend over to tie her shoes or sleep through the night. Two injections failed. No one near her offered spinal decompression, so she traveled to Indiana to get it. As the pain left her arm and her fingers and she could sleep again, she knew she had to bring it home to her patients.

05PATIENT STORIES

Getting life back, in their words.

As told by Dr. Larson

A patient came in after multiple low back surgeries, injections and ablations. He couldn't stand up straight. “It took a little while, but the more consistent we were with his treatment, the better he started to feel.” Then one day: “I golfed. I only golfed eight holes, but I golfed.” Then eighteen. “I'm doing it every weekend now.”

Individual results vary.

Awesome experience! I've been dealing with herniated disks for over 30 years. I have refused surgery and I'm glad I did. The process is fascinating. They can actually fix the problem and not just take care of the symptoms. The staff is amazing and they explain everything in great detail. I highly recommend this to anyone that has back issues or just does serious physical labor!

From the moment I stepped in the door I felt a genuinely compassionate and caring atmosphere that was almost as if my own relatives were caring for me. Dr. Larsen was very clear in her explanations of the treatment and nothing about this visit felt 'cookie cutter' or 'routine'. I felt like an individual with a specific problem that was understood by the staff and handled in a totally caring and professional way. This was my first visit/treatment but I have high hopes and expectations about this treatment and my future as it relates.

I did the spinal decompression / IDD therapy for neck pain and it worked for me. SCC was offering a new patient special with x ray and found i have a rather straight neck and my facet joints were close together. I started with the 12 appt bundle over 4 weeks, then followups spaced out. It wasn't until a couple weeks after that last appt that I felt the difference, so I stuck with it. I feel like 90%+ of the pain is gone and often I even forget about my neck unless I had a hard day. Scheduling is really flexible with the same familiar friendly people! I would 5/5 recommend.

Went in today for a neck pain consultation. It was so great and easy to understand my diagnosis and the treatment that would be best for me. The chiropractors know their stuff! And bonus they have a cute office/therapy dog to ease any nerves as well.

08HONEST EXPECTATIONS

What we won't promise.

Straight answers

  • It is not overnight.
  • The more consistent you are with treatment, the better you are going to feel.
  • Do we get it back to 100%? No. But we can improve quality of life, help you sleep better, and get you back to walking your dog.
  • Not everyone qualifies. The exam and X-rays tell us.

Who we see

  • Disc bulges, herniations and pinched nerves
  • Sciatica and low back pain
  • Neck pain and pain down the arm
  • Headaches
  • Patients who have already had surgery or a fusion
  • Patients from their teens into their 90s. It is never too late to start.
09QUESTIONS

Questions, answered.

It is very gentle. Most patients sleep during the treatment.

As long as the fusion is stable, and we always check first, the machine can be set to pull above or below the fusion and not treat through it.

No. We also treat neck pain, headaches and pain down the arm.

It is not overnight. The more consistent you are with treatment, the better you are going to feel.

We have seen patients from their teenage years into their 90s.

A lot of other things are just traction. True spinal decompression gets into the disc to help it heal and repair.
